Synopsis

After the loss of her parents, Grace moves to Alaska to move, where her uncle and cousin live. Her uncle is a principal of the boarding school, and this is where she will live. She didn’t expect how much different her life will be in Alaska, and it’s not only the temperature difference. From day one, she notices how strange this school and its students are. She is in a center of attention from the time of her arrival, and it’s not because she’s new.

However, there is only one person that catches her attention; Jaxon Vega. Incredibly handsome and dangerous. From day one, he unexpectedly saves her life. He’s always keeping an eye on her as if something could happen to her at any second. He’s not mistaken, and Grace learns about it soon enough. Everything she knew about this school and family was covered under a major secret hidden from her. She discovers that her family and all the students aren’t humans, but witches, vampires, dragons, and many more, and Jaxon is the most powerful of them all.

Book Review

I’m obsessed with this story. Let’s start with the fact that world-building is so original and exciting. I love the idea of born vampires, royalty, and war between different species. Moreover, how amazing is this that this book contains dragon shifters? I always loved books that had dragons in the story but dragon shifters and a new level. Moreover, the change in vampire history, powers, and hierarchy were very interesting. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to read this book when I found out that it’s about vampires. I’m not a big fan of vampires anymore but I would regret it if I wasn’t. This version of vampires is amazing and inspiring. She changed the blood-sucking creatures into powerful royalty, who can start an earthquake. I’m still amazed by this.

Moreover, the structure of the story is so unexpected. From the beginning, I didn’t know what to expect. I didn’t know which way the story will go, and how many twists it will contain. Moreover, I couldn’t recognize who the villain of the story was until the author revealed it. Most of the time you can say who’s suspicious, however, in this book anyone could be the villain.

I think it’s a good time to talk about two main characters: Grace and Jaxon. Grace is a very smart, caring, and brave character. She knew she was in danger, however, she didn’t run away back to California because of it as most people would do. She didn’t let anyone control her life. She was following her heart, which wasn’t the smartest choice very often, however, I can understand it. I adore her relationship with Jaxon. I think she was the only person that could make him smile. I think she brought a little bit of normality to his life after what happened to his brother. She didn’t know anything about his past so he could show her the real him, not what everyone else thinks about him. In the beginning, I thought this will be haters to lovers kind of story but surprisingly it went a completely different way. I don’t know if you could say that it was a forbidden kind of love, because the only person that was against it was Jaxon but I think we can fit it in this category.

Jaxon is the most powerful character in the book. From the beginning, I couldn’t figure him out. He has this weird obsession to keep Grace safe, even if it meant watching her every time she left her room. I’m grateful that it has been explained by the end of the book because otherwise, it would be a little bit creepy. When he’s got closer to Grace, we could also see his romantic side, which is adorable. I wish I could tell you about all of them but I think it’s better if you discover them yourself.

Review // The Sun Is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon

Book Review

The story about the destiny of two young and completely different people.
Natasha doesn’t believe in fate, love, and things that cannot be explained by science. She’s living in New York together with her parents and younger brother. She moved from Jamaica to America when she was 8 years old for her dad so he can make his dreams come true and become an actor. Unfortunately, after many years they will be deported back to Jamaica because of their illegal residency in the USA. On a day of deportation, she tries to find a way to convince the judge to let her family stay in New York.
Daniel was born in America but comes from a Korean family. His parents have already planned all his future life as a medical student at Yale University when he doesn’t even know who he wants to become and the only thing he can think about is writing poems. On the same day as Natasha has an appointment with a layer, he has an interview for Yale.

Their ways cross more than one time and Daniel takes his chance and tries to get to know her. He believes that all that happened wasn’t accidental, and it was their destiny. However, Natasha doesn’t believe in any of his theories but despite it, she gives him a chance to prove it to her because for the one time in her life she wants to believe and have hope.

An amazing story about different circumstances that bring together two different people and show that love cannot be predicted and emotions can’t be controlled. The thing I liked in this book was that even stories of a random people that were a reason they kept meeting each other, were showed and explained. We have a whole view of all events, thoughts, and history of all the characters of the book. The writing style was another advantage of the book. If you read the book ‘Everything, Everything’ by Nicola Yoon, you will also like this one.

There’s a Japanese phrase that I like: koi no yokan. It doesn’t mean love at first sight. It’s closer to love at second sight. It’s the feeling when you meet someone that you’re going to fall in love with them. Maybe you don’t love them right away, but it’s inevitable that you will.

Maybe part of falling in love with someone else is also falling in love with yourself.

We are capable of big lives. A big history. Why settle? Why choose the practical thing, the mundane thing? We are born to dream and make the things we dream about.

“I don’t believe in love.”

“It’s not a religion,” he says. “It exists whether you believe in it or not.”

“Stars are important,” I say, laughing.

“Sure, but why not more poems about the sun? The sun is also a star, and it’s our most important one. That alone should be worth a poem or two.”

I didn’t know you this morning, and now I don’t remember not knowing you.

Blog Tour // Before I Disappear by Danielle Stinson

Book Review

Rose together with her mother and brother Charlie moves from the city to the city. They are running and trying to find a safe place to live. Their next stop is Fort Glory. Rose wants this city to be their final destination. She works at Rusty where she meets people from the city and a lot of journalists who are trying to gain more information about DARC scientific organization. Rose is trying to fit in and ask her family to do the same. Her brother is very different from other kids. He is absent most of the time living in his own world but also he is very sensitive on sounds that no one hears and their environment. He hears the song of coming darkness and warns his sister about it. Rose is too busy to understand what he means and thinks it’s all just his weird way of expressing his feelings. She changes her mind when she leaves the city for an interview in another city and there no way back home as the city disappeared together with people inside including her brother and mother. She is trying to find her way to find her family and bring them back.

The unique story of unexpected events, full of science and unbreakable love. The characters in the book have a wide told past. They are also developing with each chapter of the book.

Rose is a caring good person who does everything for her family without thinking about herself. She is ready to sacrifice her life to save her younger brother from the darkness. She meets Ian, Blaine, Jeremy, and Becca in the forest where they stuck and without a way to go out. They become friends and care for each other. With the time they all together need to face dangerousness of the forest they are in.

One of the most interesting characters in the book is Charlie, the younger brother of Rose. He acts differently from the beginning of the book. I like the way he sees the world. He would never leave a single soul to suffer. Charlie feels the world more intensive. Thanks to this, he is able to save lives during the dark times which met the city.

I didn’t finish a book yet because I’m on the vacation right now and didn’t have as much time to read it. I have 50 more pages to go so I’m very close to the end. However, I can already say how good is this book. I didn’t expect the events of the book and the relationships in it. The book is a fast read because when you start you can’t put the book down. I highly recommend it to people who like to read a book where fantasy meets science. You will love this book and all the characters in it.

Why do people always destroy what they don’t understand? Why do we use our han ak when to they should be used for building?

Maps are easy. They don’t keep secrets or tell lies. There are no unsolved mysteries. Every line has a meaning. Every question has an answer. You just have to find it.

Pain is a part of life, Rosie

Review // Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas

Warning: It’s a third book of the Throne of Glass series. If you didn’t read first two books, I recommend to do not read this review.

Book Review

Aelin Galanthynius came back to Rifthold and nothing there is the same as it was before she left. Dorian was enslaved by his father King of Adarlan, Chaol run from the castle and became a head of rebels and Aedion is captured and waits for his execution. Everything she planned had to wait, while she takes care of rescuing her cousin from her enemy. With time and all the events, Aelin needs to face her past and handle her old relation with the king of assassins. It helps her to close this chapter and focus on the future of her court and her friends. A way to free her kingdom isn’t easy but she doesn’t step back even if it becomes harder with each day.

After all the time of training of weavers, Manon and Thirteen go to Morath, place where Perington together with soldiers are situated. They got unexpected orders that results are unpleasant for all witches. Manon still keeps obeying all orders of Perington and King of Adarlan as her grandmother wishes but she also tries to find out where all of these leads and why they need them there besides in the upcoming war.

I completely love this book! It was so good that I just couldn’t put the book down. The actions were so unexpected and brilliant. Aelin is a genius if it comes to planning and intrigues. As Aelin annoyed me very often in previous books, in this one she was just incredible. The reunion her with Aedion was just what I wanted it to be. I couldn’t stop smiling when I was reading about it.

Another part I enjoyed was, of course, the relationship between Rowan and Aelin. They got much closer with the time and one of the worries where it is leading them. I love the way their relationship got more intimidating. The way she starts to tease him and his reaction are exactly what I was waiting for.

I like the way all the stories from the Heir of Fire came together and made the whole. It finally made sense and also surprised me at the end. The ending kept me on my toes through a minimum of 100 pages. The most unexpected events in the book were confrontation Aelin and Manon but also Aelin and King of Adarlan. The first one was brilliant and I think I enjoyed it more than I should have. You will know why after you will read this book.

I feel like with each book this story becomes much and much better. I liked the previous books but this one was another level of greatness. I don’t understand why people hate it.

She was fire, and light, and ash, and embers. She was Aelin Fireheart, and she bowed for no one and nothing, save the crown that was hers by blood and survival and triumph.

Fire-breathing bitch-queen.

They joined hands.
So the world ended.
And the next one began.

Sometimes there won’t be a right choice, just the best of several bad options.
